GO BACK
March - April News 2006
March ! And in like a lion………………………….And so was April !

As the months go by they get busier and busier. Three events came in for the same day so naturally I am not able to attend them all. It is such a shame when I have to turn down things I would really like to do. However I try to attend when I can and events are still very varied.

Festival4Stars

I LOVE SINGING so this is one event I jumped at the chance of taking part in again as well as supporting this year as Miss Commonwealth Scotland.

I was very successful and grateful at getting quite a lot of local pre publicity from the Evening Express for this event, and in doing so managed to get quite a lot of local talent to take part.

I have helped front Festival4Stars, {the UK’s biggest talent competition}, for the past three years. The organiser, Judy Brunton, asked if I would take part and help promote the Aberdeen heat, which I was delighted to do especially as proceeds this year were going to CHAS Rachel House, a hospice for very sick children and the first of its kind in Scotland.

The event was at The Hilton Treetops on Sunday 2nd April. Hundreds turned up to perform their singing, dancing and theatre / musical skills. I entered the over 15’s solo singing category. Regardless of being asked to sing at many events, I still get nervous. You would think I would be used to it by now.

Arriving at the event to register, you are given times for the categories you are participating in, then you sit in a corridor waiting to be called to perform. Everyone sits in silence straining to hear the act before them.

When you are called, you enter a room where three judges are sitting waiting, all who have experience in music, theatre etc., It is very daunting to stand in front of them and be asked to perform for two minutes.

I will admit at one point I almost forgot my words, even though I have sung this song so many times in front of large crowds. But I managed to continue as if nothing had happened.

Then it’s a long wait until all the dance acts finish their performances in the main hall which makes matters even worse. The winner’s names are then called.

I was totally gob smacked when my name was called as a finalist! Yes I won in my solo heat and was absolutely delighted.

This then meant I had to perform again for the final in front of a panel of celebrity judges including John McRuvie from Northsound Radio and Eve Graham of New Seekers fame.

I was the only person from Aberdeen to get through out of 40 in my category, and Katy Johnston aged 10, also from Aberdeen, won in her musical under 14 section and will go to the Glasgow finals.

My thanks at this point have to go to Andrew Tobin of Events Captured who stepped in last minute as the events photographer. He is a gem and has done a lot of events with me in the past. All photos can be viewed on his website www.eventscaptured.co.uk as well as www.festival4stars.co.uk

A national competition like this should have been big enough to have had press presence on the day at least, so I am regretful that yet again only one local paper could give any credit for being the only two from Aberdeen out of hundreds to do so well.

So thank you to The Independent for a great mention. With more big singing events lined up this year I am delighted I did so well in the first event of many ahead.

And now for something completely different………………

Patched up and raring to go!

This was something completely different to anything I have been asked to do in the past.

I was approached by a company to try out new Lifewave energy patches!

These patches are going to be big. They are already used worldwide by top sportspeople from David Beckham to 80 out of 100 top lady golfers in the LPGA. Many of the Olympic teams wear them and most recently some of the Commonwealth competitors were seen wearing them to boost their performances.

They are just as they say ‘Energy patches’. And surprisingly they contain no drugs, but natural products like amino acids. Based on the new nanotechnology which goes over my head, this is the future.

I was asked as Scotland’s most successful International beauty queen, to try the patches out to see if they helped me maintain energy levels with my more than average busy lifestyle.

I was extremely sceptical and am no pushover with such things. But I will admit I have been struggling with all the things I am doing as Miss Commonwealth Scotland, a model, singer and of course it must not be forgotten I am fitting a full time Dental Hygienist job in there too.It can be really exhausting.

However I am delighted to say the patches are amazing and they really do work!
It has been proved through testing that you really do gain an increase in energy levels, hence the results well known sportspeople have been achieving through their use.

On Saturday 8th April I went down to the Glasgow SECC Vitality Show to launch the patches along with Lifewave team Duncan, Mark and Irene.

The event was very successful, with media mulling taking photographs of me promoting the patches, free gifts thrown at me, photographs taken and autographs asked for. I had a great time and yes I was wearing the patches!

Watch out for more news re the launch in Aberdeen on May 7th.

Aberdeen Commonwealth Champions Civic Reception

Please don’t think that I have been ignored as Miss Commonwealth Scotland when you don’t see me with our local Commonwealth Games Competitors going through Aberdeen on Thursday 13th April.

I was asked by our Lord Provost John Reynolds to attend but sadly the invitation was too short notice for me to cancel prior engagements.
